Let me start off by saying that my 14″ G4 iBook is fantastic. I was considering both a 12″ iBook and a 15″ PowerBook at the time, but I think I made the right choice in terms of price/performance. I’ve also bought a iCurve and an external USB keyboard and mouse as well as an external Bluetooth dongle, and I upp’ed the memory to 768 from the beginning.

However, I feel I am reaching the limits of my har disk, and one flaw of the Mac OS is that it’s not very good at using several disks (technically, this is not a Mac OS problem but rather a problem with the applications that came with it: Mail, iPhoto and iTunes in particular).

So, I’m thinking about a hard disk upgrade. It seems to be complicated, but feasible. I’m thinking about the 120-gig Seagate Momentus.

But the question is: If I do this, should I get an internal Bluetooth module too? And maybe go all the way on memory at the same time? And if I did that, wouldn’t I be better off waiting for the soon-to-come Mac Book (sans Pro)?

Earlier today, one of the USB ports on my iBook 15″ stopped working. Installing the Mac OS X 10.4.4 upgrade (and restarting the iBook) fixed the problem, but I have no idea what happened.

I just got a phone call. It was a recorded voice telling me “Congratulations, you’ve just won a cruise to the Caribbean. To claim your prize, press 9″.

Caller ID wasn’t available. I didn’t press 9, instead I called my phone company. They couldn’t tell me what or who it was either, but said that this is something they’re working on.

I really wonder what that was.

Over the past few days, I’ve been installing the necessary software to run a mail server. I chose qmail (because that’s what I’m used to), and had to fiddle quite a lot to get bincimap, my new IMAP server, to work (hint: the development version didn’t play well with Apple Mail). daemontools, ucsp-tcp and ucsp-ssl (ucsp-tls) were relatively painless to install.

But the new kid on the block is qpsmtpd. Last time I ran qmail, I was considering writing a similar smtpd myself, but I never got around to it. I’m still trying to work out some quirks though, especially with spamassassin.

The file upload via XMLRPC doesn’t work in WordPress 2.0. But the fix is already out there: the fixes to tickets 3376 and 3378 fixed the problem for MarsEdit and me.

Note that the uploads will be put into a year/month folder structure.

Aujourd’hui, l’université de la Bourgogne m’a confirmé la bonne réception de mon dossier, et me promet «prochainement» un courrier ou courriel.

Jeg syns det er morsomt å lese om FrPs syn på nasjonaløkonomi. De vil gjerne kvitte seg med petroleumsfondet, og tenker at hvis en bare bruker pengerne utenfor Norge, så bliver det ikke noen påvirkning på inflasjonen. Først foreslo Carl I å importere PC’er til alle norkse skoler fra utlandet, og idag kom dette utspillet: “Hver nordmann bør få et kredittkort med 18 000 kr. på konto, til bruk på grisefester, sangria og shopping i utlandet. Det foreslår Fr.p.s finanspolitiker Gjermund Hagesæter.”

Jeg bare lurer: Hvor mange av disse kronene kommer å bli igen i Töckfors, Strömstad osv? Og hva vil det bety for norsk handel, svensk nasjonaløkonomi og norsk-svensk handelsbalanse?

On New Year’s Eve, WordPress v. 2.0 was released. I installed/updated this morning. Thanks to the excellent update instructions, this was completely free from pain.

Not much changed on the surface, but quite a lot below said surface. For instance, parts of the Polyglot plugin seems to have quit working.

I just hope that the folks at WordPress will work a bit more on documentation than they did for version 1.5.
